The diocesan Commission for Women will be hosting their annual mini-retreat at St. Anne Parish in Shrewsbury on Nov. 16.
Francesca LaRosa, an internationally recognized Catholic composer whose music is played in churches throughout the world, will present.
At the age of nine Mrs. LaRosa began playing at Mass with her father. By the end of high school, she had composed and recorded two albums of music for liturgy. The music education she received at Ball University deepened her call to serve God through music. However, there was a time when she felt she had lost her way and was unable to find how God wished her to serve him through her music. She found inspiration in the book of Psalms.
Her dedication to creating musical renditions of the psalms in the form of hymns and chants are reflected in her personal words. She stated, “I have fallen in love with the psalms because they hit on every single human emotion. I especially love that part of the Bible because Jesus prayed the psalms. I found it a powerful experience to say the same prayers as our Lord.”
Mrs. LaRosa and her husband David, a music producer and videographer, created a YouTube channel to share her word-for-word psalm settings in both English and Spanish. Accompanied by Mr. LaRosa, Mrs. LaRosa leads cantor workshops, retreats and concerts.
Mrs. LaRosa embodies deep faith, an energetic spirit and a beautiful heart which has captivated audiences around the world. Her retreat experience is woven with fun, humor, prayer, scripture, personal stories and discussion time. Exploring Mary's fiat (or ‘yes’) those in attendance will be guided to embrace God's call.
Will we say “yes” to the call?
The day will begin with Mass at 8:30 a.m. followed by coffee and pastry. The program will conclude at 1 p.m. A light lunch will be offered. Please register by Nov. 8 by emailing suzan.zybert@gmail.com or worcestercommissionforwomen@gmail.com.
