WORCESTER – Bishop McManus ordained Victor Alonso Sierra Lopez a transitional deacon Saturday at St. Paul Cathedral, in preparation for priesthood.

www.worcesterdiocese.org. Mr. Sierra, son of William Humberto Sierra Marin and Maria Luz Angela Lopez Castano, was born on Oct. 29, 1989 in Santo Domingo, Antioquia, Colombia. He has two brothers and one sister.
He graduated from Jorge Elieser Gaitan Ayala High School in 2006. He got his bachelor’s in philosophy from the Seminary of Our Lady in Marinilla in 2010. He then studied Theology at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin and did mission work in São Paulo, Brazil, for a year.
He came to the United States on Aug. 18, 2014 at the invitation of Bishop McManus, to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese.
“I love going to missions,” Mr. Sierra explained. “When I was 17 … I did my first mission. … I realized that serving and loving God through the announcement of his Gospel to his people was what I wanted to do the rest of my life.”
He studied English for two years at Clark University and is now finishing studies at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore.
He served at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Milford and St. Cecilia and Holy Family of Nazareth parishes in Leominster.
